20110624MudFest-005.jpg

A young woman at the annual Taong Putik, or "mud people," festival, lights a votive candle on the steps of the Catholic church in Bibiclat, on Luzon island, Philippines. The festival honors St. John the Baptist, and devotees smear their bodies with mud and dress in cloaks made from banana leaves and vines, which symbolize the animal skins the saint wore in the Bible. June 24, 2011.
