Lance Cpl. Matthew W. McElhinney has been shot in the back just below his body armor and just above his right buttock during a gun battle with Taliban fighters near Marjah, Afghanistan. There is no exit wound, and the extent of his injury is unknown. But McElhinney is bleeding profusely and in a lot of pain as his buddies from Company L, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment work to stop the loss of blood and to keep him from going into shock.
