A ranger takes a break from repairing a trail section to chat with hikers along the 40-mile Overland Track in Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia. The ranger asked the hikers if they had seen any snakes that morning. When the told him they had seen a small one, the ranger explained how he used to catch snakes as a child. "We'd chase 'em down into the holes, and grab 'em by the tail to pull 'em out," he said. "If we missed the head as they were coming out, then we just kept going on over our shoulder with them." Tasmania has three species of snakes, all of them poisonous. But the state hasn't recorded a death by snakebite since 1967. Nov. 19, 2012.
