20120301TuolSleng-06.JPG

The serene grounds today at the Tuol Sleng prison in Phnom Penh, Cambodia belie the horrors that occurred here in the past. An estimated 17,000 political prisoners passed through Tuol Sleng during the Khmer Rouge regime of 1975-1979. All but a handful of them were killed after a period of brutal interrogation for often imaginary crimes. March 1, 2012.
