A steady rain is pouring as men hoist a statue of St. John the Baptist and begin a parade through nearby streets during the annual Taong Putik, or "mud people," festival in Bibiclat, on Luzon island, Philippines. The festival honors St. John the Baptist, and devotees cover themselves in mud, banana leaves and vines to symbolize the animal skins he wore in the Bible. After the procession, the devotees strip off their ritual garments and wash themselves clean. June 24, 2011.
