David E. Clark puts reflective tape on a new bicycle at a school in the rural highlands district of A Luoi in central Vietnam. For the past two years, Clark has helped fellow war veteran Mark Oconnor distribute nearly 150 bicycles to poor students in the mostly ethnic minority district so they can get to school easier. Clark, a former Marine who served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, says he enjoys helping Oconnor because he thinks bicycle safety is important. “I was just fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time to be involved,” he said.
