An elaborately decorated gate at the Citadel in the former imperial capital of Hue, Vietnam. Built in 1804, the Citadel was styled after the Forbidden City in Beijing, and was home to the ruling Nguyen dynasty until 1945, when the last emperor, Bao Dai, abdicated. Heavy fighting took place in the Citadel during the Tet Offensive of 1968, and many of its buildings were destroyed. Restoration efforts are ongoing. April 21, 2013.
