A concrete bunker sits at the Hai Van Pass near Da Nang, Vietnam. The French military built the structure during their losing struggle against Viet Minh guerrillas from 1945 to 1954, and U.S. troops occupied the same position and others nearby during the Vietnam War a decade later. The bunkers are scarred with numerous bullet holes, an enduring testimony to the frequent combat that once took place here. Aug. 12, 2012.
