Trinh Cong Tan, 66, a former South Vietnamese army intelligence officer, poses for a portrait with his six-year-old daughter in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Trinh spent six years in a reeducation camp after the war, where "they made me pull a plow like a water buffalo," he said. Later, "when I got out, I had one shirt, one pair of pants and nothing else. I wanted to kill myself. But my mother told me I could not die yet. 'You still have your hands and your strength and you can start over again,' she said.'" Today, he runs a small roadside cafe on the outskirts of the city. July 13, 2011.
