The Soviet Cultural Center in Kabul, Afghanistan was abandoned when Russian troops left in 1989, and was almost completely destroyed when rival mujahideen groups battled for control of the city during the 1992-1994 civil war. The gutted ruin now serves as a rendezvous point for many of Kabul's opium and heroin addicts. Feb. 2, 2009.
